Why Radio?

Well I wouldn’t lie to you and say radio was my first choice, I always wanted to do marketing and when I found out I was gifted with talking I ran away from that. I just guess I wasn’t well informed about the radio or broadcasting industry, but I remember one day I just recorded myself broadcasting and from there I felt the passion within and I was hooked.

Which radio stations have you worked for?
The first time I was introduced to a radio station was back in 2017 when I was asked by a former high school mate to join him on his show, Midday show since he needed someone for gossip and entertainment feature and I loved it, but couldn’t continue since I was in Matric.

Besides radio, what other projects are you currently busy or involved with?

I won’t mention everything but I’m a social media manager, which is more of advertising a product, business or a brand for the owner and I’m enjoying it since I always wanted to do marketing plus I’m doing other projects that I can’t mention as yet but hustling continues.

Who is your South African radio icon?

Ohhh man! My all time favorite has to be DJ Sgqemeza, I just love his style since the first time I heard him on radio man. Anele Mdoda is also my icon, well I have seen that radio is dominated by the males and she just shows that even us women can do radio.

What can we expect from you in the next Five years?

Well, we always plan and God decides, I guess we have to do our part and he will handle the rest but I’m hoping that all my hustle will show and be successful.

How often do you listen to other radio stations and which radio station do you usually listens to?

I love Metro FM and I wish to be their broadcaster one day. I usually listen to others from time to time since I’m still in a community radio station and still have a lot to learn, so I can be a radio Presenter for big radio stations.

What has working on radio has taught you?

Patience, that we can dream but everything happens in due time and learning to be patient means I have to hustle hard and pray for better days.

What advice can you give to aspiring radio broadcasters?

This is not an easy industry, I think luck and time works more than experience, passion or talent, but if passion drives you nothing is impossible and radio is amazing because it can open other doors if you ready to face the world and broadcasting wise just be you and let listeners love you and enjoy yourself when broadcasting.

Luyanda Thee Original is doing midday show called Vibe in the Afternoon at Vibe 94.7 FM between 12 and 3pm, every Mondays to Fridays alongside DJ Worldwide.
